Panama Canal Project

Panama Canal

More than 60,000,000 pounds of dynamite was used to excavate and construct the Panama Canal. They had to use so much dynamite, because the canal would have been impossible to build with the modern day technology. The Panama Canal is very important, though a lot of people died trying to build it, and people spent a lot of money on it, though a lot of people use it every day.

Because the Panama Canal was difficult to build, many people lost their lives trying to build it. About 20,000 French lost their lives during their control over the Panama Canal. 5,609 workers lost their lives due to accidents and health problems, 80% of those people were black and 350 workers were white Americans.

There were many difficulties that the workers faced building the canal, six faults and five volcanic cores. Because there were precipitous slopes, flooding was a huge problem because the water would fall down off the steep slope. Another huge problem was two things, malaria fever and yellow fever, people died because of a mist that came from the swamps and marshes. There was also a dense jungle covering the area.

The idea to create a canal that connects the Atlantic and pacific oceans can be tracked to 1513, and in 1534 Charles V. told the people of Panama to survey the area and look for the best route, and their governor said it was impossible for anyone to do. In 1880 the French unsuccessfully tried to build the canal, but had no luck.  The French and the Americans made a treaty, and the canal was successfully built from 1904 – 1914.

The Panama Canal would have been easier to build today than in 1904-1914, because they didn’t have all of our modern day technology. There were many difficulties the workers faced building the canal, and many people lost their lives because of health problems and accidents. They had to use lots of dynamite because their technology wasn’t as advanced as our technology.

My Year at Asa Clark

Author's note: In this post I will tell how my year was, and how I thought the year was. I will also put one at the end of the year.

My Year at Asa Clark Middle School
My year at Asa has been an experience I won't forget right away. I have made a few friends. I solved the problem of being teased by one of the two people that teased me. I also got to experience a new way of learning in school.

I would say that 7th grade has clearly been the strangest school year I have experienced. That's how it usually is, middle school is supposed to be the best and worst years of your life, probably because you're maturing and you’re not a kid any more.

I didn't make many friends, maybe one or two, but that's it. There have been a lot more dances this year than last year, I only remember two from last year, now they have one about every month. I like Asa Clark better than all of my other schools, especially Horizon, I guess I just didn't like how they ran their school, though my teacher wasn't strict, or at least really strict.

The only thing that I hate about Asa Clark was, bullying, now I wasn't bullied physically, it was more mentally and I didn't catch on right away, but I eventually figured out they were teasing me, they only teased me, but it happened constantly, like bullying. If they try to tease me again, I am going straight up to the district and DEMAND that they do something, because it felt like everybody was against me, like they were some kind of group, and everybody was in it, because not ONE person did anything about it, they just stood there and watched them tease me. Though my sisters were bullied worse than me, I was told that somebody once set one of my sisters hair on fire.

Trust me if the school does something, but they still bully me, I am going to explode, and I am going to go up to the staff and say that I am not leaving until they stop bullying me, trust me I am NOT going to spend another year having them bully me, because I will not stand it, because the main reason 6th grade was horrible was because they bullied me all year.

Until about the middle of second quarter, one of them still bullied me in gym, though it wasn't as worse, and I actually did something about it. This year has been better that last year, mainly because of Academy 21, I have met many people this year that I didn't know last year and if I were to count the number of people I met this year an didn't know this year would be over 10.

My Projects.

I am putting a few posts on My Projects page, and moving a few posts there.

My Responce to the David's Heartbeat Field Trip 2/10/12

Author's Note: This is about my response to the field trip on Friday. I also split my responses into three sections, the play, the bus ride, and the entire field trip.  (2/10/12)

The David's Heartbeat Field Trip was very fun and interesting field trip. I also thought that it was cool that one of the Academy members was in it, I was surprised.  I thought it was educational.

The play
The play was very interesting, it was cool that someone in the Academy was in the play, one reason I went was because it was church related. I noticed that they used movements instead of talking. They had speakers do the talking. I also thought that the dancers danced really well. I thought the play was very entertaining.

The bus ride & lunch
The bus ride was fun, though most of the time the people in the back were goofing off. I think it was good that the helper was there, because it could have gotten crazy back there. Lunch was okay, because they didn't have Cousin's Subs there, only Subway though it was good.

The Field Trip
The field trip was good, because everybody was sitting there watching the play, and not goofing off. The bus ride was good because we didn't leave anybody behind, which would have been horrible. Lunch was good because everybody got to choose what they were going to have for lunch, instead of the teacher bringing lunch for the class, or everybody bringing a lunch.

My opinion
I thought that the field trip was worth missing half the day, though I am a little behind in one of my allied classes. The field trip was fun, and gave me a little break away from school. I would like to thank the people who did the field trip, it was worth it.

Nepal Project

Author's Note: This is a research report. In this process, I learned that Nepal is a unique country. I learned that Mt. Everest is in Nepal. I learned that Nepal started a government  in 1951.

Nepal is a unique and interesting country. Nepal is located in south Asia. Nepal has many animals, most of them that might not even be in the United States. Nepal has a variety of climate.  Nepal is the highest country in the world.

Nepal has many religions. Hinduism is the most common religion in Nepal; Buddhism is the second biggest religion, Islam is the third largest religion, Mundhum is, Christianity is the fifth largest religion.

Nepal has many animals. The Indian Rhinoceros rest in the shade near rivers, lakes, and ponds. The Snow leopard is a very uncommon sight because people hunt them and use their organs for their own needs. The Clouded Leopard can use their claws to hang upside down on trees. The Marbled Cat is afraid of humans and its expression turns fierce and is killed by humans. The Red Panda are mainly active at night, when they hunt.

Nepal has a variety of climates. Nepal has mainly arctic climate because it is in a mountain range. Nepal is also has tropical and subtropical climate because of the low altitude. Nepal has cold climate because of the altitude. There is a subarctic climate because of the high altitude.

Nepal has a bunch of different rocks and stones. Limestone is made out of shells that were forced together. Sandstone is sand grains mashed together. Shale is clay that has hardened and turned into rock. Some rocks are fossiliferous, so they include fossilized plants and animals. Some rocks are unfossilferous, so they don’t include fossilized plants and animals.

Nepal would be an interesting place to visit, because it has a variety of many things. If you went to Nepal, you would see tons of animals, birds, and mountains.  If I dug in the ground, I would probably find many kinds of rocks and minerals.

My weekend

My weekend was almost a normal weekend, besides the fact that I was at my Dad's house (don't ask) all day Thursday, that would've been normal if I was living there, and I would've played the Wii all day but I was outside almost all day, with the next door neighbors, and trust me if you think you have a bad neighborhood, you haven't seen my Dad's, yours may be worse but mine is bad, because almost all the kids there are like 4 or 5, and trust me, they're annoying but the next door neighbors have two boys, 13 and 11, and a 8 year old , and the eight year old is a HUMUNGOUS  brat and tattletale, she tattles on you if you don't listen to her, and a bunch of other stuff. On Friday I went to another friends house, and let's just say that they have a bit of money, at 6:30 I went to some kind of church event that the main attraction was a guy who could jump-rope on a unicycle, and all these other things, and at the end they turned out the lights and he did some tricks and things in the dark, and it was really cool.

Milwaukee Public Museum

My most recent field trip was to the Milwaukee Public Museum, and I got it all on video, but I can't seem to get the first half of the video, even if I don't have it, it was still a fun field trip, even if I don't have any REAL friends in the Academy, I hope we have another field trip soon, because that was a fun field trip, and I want to go again.

My response to the world

Authors note: In this Story, I give my response to the way the world is, and I explain how the world has changed the last 200-300 years.
The way life is now

I think that it's stupid that the economy has raised the prices of gas, because people are using cars all the time so they need gas, but if gas prices get to high people are going to be stuck walking everywhere and they’re going to have to sell everything they own just to have enough money to buy gas. I also think that it's dumb that some people will kill and steal just to have something that they want, that seems like that's all people do kill, just because they don't like somebody or don't agree with somebody, that's probably how all the wars we have started, just because somebody doesn't agree on the way somebody else runs their country, and it's really stupid that people bomb other people, like Pearl Harbor, Japan bombed us because they were mad at us for something we did to them or something.

Thousands of people die every day because of murderers, terrorist, diseases, and mainly, war, seriously  people thousands of people go into war to, "Serve their country" or to finish the war that we started because we DISAGREE WITH THEM, seriously why can't you talk about it, like "You should stop slavery because it's unfair to the slaves" or something like that. People don't trust other people anymore because the PEOPLE that they don't trust did something that made it so that they don't trust them, like killing somebody, or stealing something from someone, and it also seems like the only thing that people care about is money, like job scams or stealing from banks or tricking someone into doing something that does not give them what they wanted to get from the scam.

People also make fun of other people just because they're a "geek" or a "nerd" or are interested in something that they think is stupid, let’s say someone likes Halo, and someone who likes Call of Duty makes fun of that person that likes Halo, but how would they feel if somebody made fun of them for liking Call of Duty, I don't think that they would like it, another thing that people don't do is listen to rules, for example, the teachers at Asa tell kids they can't play games on their laptops, but what do they do? Play games on their laptops, or don't run in the hallway, so people run in the hallways or something people definitely won't listen to don't say swear words on school grounds but what do I hear? "That was so ------ awesome!" See people don't listen to the rule, that’s why the economy is in bad condition, because people don't listen to rules, like when people are going to cross a crosswalk cars have to stop for them to cross, and no speeding, ha! Like people are going to go 45 mph when their running late to work, people are probably going to go 70 mph so they aren't late.

If people don't want to die than don't smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol! It's as simple as that, but why do people do it? to be cool and fit in with everybody else at school, seriously people know that if they smoke they're going to die, and if they don't die, they're going to end up with a hole in their throat or something, and when their in the hospital and they're being told they're going to die they're going to regret that they smoked just to fit in the same with alcohol. People need to learn that who cares if they fit in, I only have four friends here and I'm okay, I'm just glad that two people aren't in Academy 21, Zach Sack, and Bailey Fidlin, because last year they teased me, and all started when Zach constantly said, "Stop it Andrew.", and I wasn't doing anything, well except for breathing, but I can't stop that, that's what keeps me alive.

The economy was much simpler in the old days, well it was hard and easy, hard because people did everything by hand, but back then people didn't have to worry about gas, or having enough money to go to the grocery store, because people were always farmers, so they grew their own food, and people hardly left their homes, and now people have to worry about all that stuff, and now people are greedy, all people care about is money, why can't people just get along? I really hope that after everybody at Asa Clark has lived their life and is dead that the world will be better, I hope that everybody has a good life and that their grandchildren live in an economy that is better than ours is now.

I hope that the world gets better and everybody gets along, because friendship and love are the most important things in the world, because if it wasn't for love everybody would be dead. People need to learn to control their anger and talk it out, and people need to learn to trust people, and people need to learn to not be greedy, because friendship is more important than money, people need to learn not to kill somebody because they're mad at them or don't like them, people need to learn to not tease and bully people just because they're a "Nerd" or a "Geek" or because they like something that the bully think is dumb, and people need to stand up for themselves and say, "I'm not scared of you!", people definitely need to learn how to drive for example when my mom tries to get into the right lane to drop me off at school, nobody let's her through, and people need to learn to listen to rules, sure you might not like to listen to rules, but if it wasn't for rules, the world would be in chaos. I hope that you enjoyed reading my story, I know it's longer than all my other posts, if you have any comments or things that you think I can fix, please tell me, I want to hear all your opinions on how you thought my story was.

My time at PSD.

I'm happy that I'm in middle school again. Last time I was middle school was last year (before I moved here.), and the teachers weren't as nice as the teachers are here. So far this year has been good, I just haven't made any new friends yet but I hope I make at least one new friend here, but until that happens I guess I'm stuck with no friends in my class. The only good thing about last year is that I made four friends.
